Re: 301 reel grease/ lube

I too use synthetic grease, a military grade TW25B, probably way too expensive for reels but it's on-hand as I use it for my guns. I see no reason to buy different grease for my reels. I tried Penn Reel lube but the reels feel sluggish afterwards. This grease is lightweight, long-lasting and works ...

Re: 900 series reels

I meant to say in my last post that my 900 had 5 to 1 written on it, I said 300. Sorry 'bout that Glen I had no idea of the faster ratio. Well, actually, the only thing I knew about the 900 is the skirted spool, but is the 900 spool the same diameter as the 300, or smaller or larger? I wonder what ...

Re: Picking a good one

I read about fellow members getting Mitchell 300, 308 etc from flea markets and yard sales for $5 0r $10. They clean up and are usable. I wish I was able to make these sort of finds. I would pay that for any 300 just for parts, never mind one that will function. Seems same in my part of Virginia (t...

Re: Beginner Basics: which cleaner, grease & oil?

My pickup truck (ute?) came with joints that did not have grease gun fittings. These were meant to be pre-lubed for life, which seems to work out for a few years. I wonder what type of grease is in those things. FWIW, I've been using Super Lube lately, and just finished up a tube of green "tefl...

Re: How to search a forum

Thanks Wallace. For older posts and information search sites may have scanned through and cataloged things. Some like Google and DuckDuckGo can do something like this in the web browser address block: 410dl site:mitchellreelmuseum.com <press enter> It won't find new posts until the search site has c...

Reel size?

Ok, the 300/301 <> 400/401 308/309 <> 408/409 and so on, but... What are the specs for a 410? The 310 is list as UL, but the 410 isn't? https://mitchellreelmuseum.com/list-of-all-mitchell-reels-1939-1989/ I'm looking for reel weight and line rate of retrieve (inches per turn of handle, or IPT) for t...

Re: Lost stuff from the prehacked Museum.

Uhh, I hope fishing users of these reels are at least in Group 4, or is there a Group 5? Some of us want a reliable source for answering questions so we can keep using this stuff. If it breaks, we want to know we can get the parts, correctly. Anyway, through all of this, if you got the proof then go...

Re: Saved reels

I’d be concerned about warping if not melting the metal. Keep in mind internal to the frame in these reels is a half sleeve of steel, which expands differently than aluminum when heated. Glad it worked though.

Getting more use out of your air brush. Did you have to paint the rotor head of that 406? Not sure what that crusty stuff was. Looks great.
