Re: Dejevu

I have spent the winter, working on reels, I receive last fall at flea markets. Also built some rods. Like Kim said summer brings more deals on reels and people "they will come" looking for help. I for one will be fishing alot till the cold weather comes back.

310 fix

Someone gave me a Taiwan made Mitchell 310. He thought the bail arm may be worn (trip lever not locking in the bail arm), as did I until I took the head off. With the head off the trip lever locks in the bail arm as it should. Another problem I see is. Turning the reel in a retrieving motion fast it...

Re: reel noise

I myself like the clicking, of the Mitchell. As some know I paint reel with a lot of missing paint, and not to original color. I like when someone says "is that a Mitchell your using never saw one like that" I just say and you never will, with a smile.

Ok so I'm a UL guy. But last season give me a bunch of reels in parts. Looks like I can make 2 working 302's. I have one put together, and working good. BUT when I flip the bail for casting, I notice it doesn't clear spool. It's the same position on both reels. Question is do I want to bent the bail...

Schrack,
You say the middle sized gear, what model reel are you talking about? Not all reels have a middle gear. I thought the thread was asking about the main gear & pinion gears.

I don't remember seeing transfer gears anywhere. So my guess is main and pinion gears. If this is the case, you can get vibration, if you only replace one gear.

If you decide to get a 204, do yourself a favor get an extra spool or 2. The spools are getting hard to get here USA now. See my post in Reel Talk Backing off drag.

Re: Backing off he drag

While it is true to back off drag on all reels. But on the 204, there is a fabric (I'll call it felt, don't really know). With drag left on the fabric separates the top of the spool from the bottom. Water can also do this if not dried right away.

For years now I have been backing off all the drag tension, on my reels. It all started with losing 2 spools on 204 reels. also due to tension. Anyone else do this, or does everyone?
