Re: Saved reels

Bailarm, actually the 1st one took forever! So I tried my grinding wheel with a soft steel brush. It now takes me about an hour and a half, to remove paint. I get some minor scratches, that primer and paint fill.

Saved reels

The reels are a 406, and two 308'S. The purple was for my daughter, and camo for my grandson. I did forget to take a before picture of my grandsons reel.

Re: Mitchell Reel Restoration

Great piece of art Wallace. And I have learned lately Restoration is used loosely. I use to think I was restoring, but now I know I save reels. I think everyone would agree, that if you posted pictures would be good. I'll show you here one of the saves I made. alllanbiddle I have saved 3 reels, with...

Re: spool won't release

Bailarm mentioned stripping the reel. If you have never done it, while it is not hard to do. But make sure yo examine all the part, especially under the gears, on the pinion gear. Their are shims in the reel and have to be put back in the same places.

Re: Mitchell 406

Basque46,
I did a restore on the 406 a couple years ago. The lever your talking about is pressed on. You'll need a new housing, I don't see any on ebay right now.

Re: 300 Taiwan made

Thanks Wallace, I did try spreading and bending a 300 spring. With no luck. I even tried putting a washer in front of the screw to take some slop out of it. By the way love the chart :D it's in my files now. Also I think I'm as good as you now at the 300 bail spring, put this one in at least a dozen...

Re: 300 Taiwan made

Thanks Ed! Big fan of youtube! I know Dennis and have talked a few time in email. My problem is not getting the bail spring in, it's having it stay in. Due to slop movement in the plate. Going to try a tiny washer in front of the screw. Maybe even trying to bend up the end of the spring to get deepe...

300 Taiwan made

I have a 300 here made in Taiwan. I work mostly on 204 & 308's, one of my flea market vendors ask me to put a bail spring in it. My problem is every time I seat it, the bail locks over, turn the rotating head and it pops out. The hardware looks original, but is sloppy. But I don't believe I have...

Unknown reel

I was at a flea market today, and saw this reel. I'm wondering if anyone knows what it is, thought it may be some kind of Mitchell.

Re: Mitchell where and why

I think DO IT! It's basically want I was thinking. I like seeing spots people fish, or what they encounter while fishing. The reason I posted the deer, 10 yards in front of me. Also the reel the mates have.
Looking forward to seeing Show & Tell All Things Mitchell

Mitchell where and why

Wallace,
I know the site is under construction. But is there any intention, bringing back Mitchell where and why to the Forum? I for one like posting there, and see where other mates are fishing Mitchell's.
Maybe others will comment to see if they would like it back.

I have been to Lockhaven, but not to fish. I had relatives from their back in the sixties. I do a lot of flounder fishing, in the bays and inlets of New Jersey. I also Indian River in Delaware.

Restored another 308

I restored this 308 for my 7 year old grand-son, he likes camo. The reel was missing 70% of it's paint. I forgot to take pictures before removing what little paint it had.

I have 2 streams near me 10mins. and 20 mins. away. I do a whole lot of trout fishing!
We'll use some 204 & 308's paired with some ul rods I built.
