What would be the Biggest Fish you would use a 308 to catch, also line weight what would be Max?
I recently got into these and fell in Love with them.
Do not think would do well with Channel Cats!

I use my 308 mostly trout fishing streams with a ultra light rod 4 pound test.
I once used it trolling streamers and landed nice 3 to 4 pound rainbows it was a lot of fun

A repeat story with apologies. I caught a 32 inch long Carp in the Trent River, in Ontario about 1980. I was using a 308 on a Berkeley 5 1/2 foot light action rod with 4 pound test monofilament. We were in a boat and it took about an hour to bring the fish to net.
