Triangular Spool Shape

Post by beckaroosky »

Hey everybody - first post! I have been buying and selling mitchell reels for quite awhile and just came across something unusual. Have a 300, with an "A" serial # and then lower capacity spool that was on the reel has a Rounded / Triangular shape at the base and then tapers to a fully round shape at the top of the spool. I thought it maybe just got "hot" and deformed into this shape but it looks like it may have been made this way. There are some cracks in the central part of the spool. Just curious if anyone has seen this before.?
thanks.

becka, welcome to the MRM forum!!

I've had that happen when plastic arbors are spooled by a machine at a sporting goods store. The machine winds the line too tight on the spool crushing the plastic arbor. I've loaded all my spools manually ever since.

Thanks, that makes sense - it has definitely been "Squished"
