What is a good lightweight grease and cleaner to use in 300? I'm wanting to clean up a couple of old reels I have and need a good grease and a cleaner to soak the parts in.

I think you will find a lot of different answers. Myself I like Penn reel cleaner (I do add a little wd40) and I will use the butter oil and butter grease on the gears when I have it. My real go to grease is corrosion block!! I actually put a thin coat on the entire reel. Especially saltwater reels. I have had reels pulled into saltwater, came home a could have opened them and just give them a rinse. Of course I do tear them down.

Is there a commercial grade grease and cleaner one could purchase at a Home Depot or Lowe's? Or is reel butter better than anything else?

3in1 works. I bought the Corrosion Block I think 2-3 years ago, 1lb jar online. I live in winter cold weather, and use it on battery terminals, etc. Haven't even put a dent in it.

jlslavey,
My current favorites are: :sBo_bounce2:

Odorless Mineral Spirits for cleaning

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Klean-Strip- ... gKCA_D_BwE

Daiwa Reel Oil comes in a needle dispenser which I really love.

https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-6411 ... enser.html

Daiwa Reel Grease comes in a Reel Greaser Dispenser.

https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_S ... gKUVfD_BwE

Many places are running out this time of year so you may need to shop around for the Daiwa grease and oil, but the Odorless Mineral Spirits are sold everywhere. :sFun_eyescan:

Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Bill :tup

You can buy AbuGarcia High Precision reel grease on ebay for $8. It looks and feels just like the original Garcia grease.

Has anyone ever used a spray silicone to lube the gears, just wondering if it is better or worse than reel grease?
