Hello Mates,

Here is a new addition that you don't see very often. Mitchell only made a few thousand of the GM 209 and this is one of the very few I've seen. I don't believe it has ever been on a rod and has a few very minor scuffs from what I believe is from handling / storage. It still has the original grease in it and operates perfectly.

Interestingly, this reel has no serial number :sCo_huhsign: .

It clearly has not been repainted but there isn't even a hint of it ever being stamped?? I have 10 other 200 Series reels (204, 206, 208 and 218 - Most NIB) and they all have serial numbers stamped on the reel seat. See continuation for more photos.

Regards,
Chris

Hi Mates,

Here are a few more photos of this reel.

For being one of Mitchell's "Economy" reels, I think these are very nicely built. Also interestingly, the drag is built into the spool vice requiring a drag washer like the other economy 320/324 reels. As always Mates, comments and questions are always welcome.

Regards,
Chris

Hello Chris,

Nice find.
The 200-series Mitchell 200 left-handed version is one of the hardest to find.
Production was very limited, 30416 for 207 - 17023 for 209 - 7415 for 219 including 207 S and 209 S.
The 219 was produced for a shorter period than the other two models, stopping in my opinion when the "S" versions appeared.
Here is a picture of the reels of this type that owns in my collection.
Best regards,
Christian

Chris, nice looking reel.

Christian, thanks for showing.

I don't own any 200 series, but they do look quite nicely built for an economy reel.

Chris thanks for sharing. I checked my lone 209 and found faint serial number. G2-----. So I'm thinking late 1977. Hope this helps.
Christian, great 200 series. I thought the 219 was a myth until several years ago. I think it may have been you. The 205, if even made, would be a rare one.
I have 2- 207's and one in box if I could locate it. No neat collection as you guys have. Thanks again

Hello Kim,
The 219 was manufactured from 1977 to 1982, when its production was lower: 496 copies
Mine is 1978 # H2700109.
The catalogs and SAV mention a 219 S but I have never even seen a picture, hence my doubt when it was actually manufactured.
Just what can I say on the 219.
Best regards,
Christian

Hi Mates,

Christian, Thank you very much for your most informative post and showing a wonderful collection of left hand 200 Series reels. I was not aware of the Garcia Mitchell 219 :sFun_shocked: . Do you have any information of the possibility of a Mitchell 205?

Sandman and Kim, thank you for the kind comments. Kim, interesting that your 209 has a faintly stamped serial number? All of my right hand 200's have pretty clear serial numbers - was this an issue on 200 Series LH reels only?. I guess I'll just have to find a few more LH 200's...….Especially the GM 219!

Kind Regards,
Chris

Hello Chris,

Regarding the 205, I have no document Mitchell mentioning it.
I looked at all the catalogs and SAV I have, none mention it.

In the Mitchell production listings I have, the column header says "204/5" and in 1974 and 1982 there are two numbers under the 204 for a total of 1607 copies.
For the other left-handers there is a special column for them, for example a column 206 and a column 207.
That's what I can say, the certainty of catalogs and SAV is contradicted by this listing of production.
So we can still dream and one day find this mythical 205.
Best regards,
Christian

Hello Christian,

Thank you for the great information in your response...….I guess for now, we can only hope for a GM 205 :sFun_bricks:

Kind Regards,
Chris
