This was the summer when I used my first Mitchell, a borrowed 304 almost as old as I was. I had only used spin casting reels since I was three but was introduced to spin tackle during a month long trip to Big Basswood Lake in Ontario. I used a 304 the entire month, fishing almost every day and catching smallmouth and yellow perch on the lake, and walleye and pike on the Spanish River. My fishing mentor had a brand new Mitchell 330 and I was in awe. I became a Mitchell convert. When I got back home to Virginia I bought my dad a new Mitchell 300 as a gift for when he returned from Vietnam a few months later. I bought myself a Mitchell 300 and matching 8200 series rod the next year for my 17th birthday. My father is 89 this year and has stopped fishing. But his mint condition Mitchell 300 sits on my desk as I write this. My mint condition 300 sits next to it.

Komta,
Very enjoyable story! I think that all the mates have stories like yours ,from many decades ago, that started them down this road of collecting Mitchells.
Thanks for telling it!
