Post subject:  Mitchell 304 knob problem

I purchased a 304 from the auction site. Upon arrival the screw #81 044 was broken in transit. What are my options for fixing this? Any help is appreciated. I am sure one of the pro's have ran into this problem. I can not even find this part ,or a whole handle on the auction site.

Hi Hrgriz, I don't know for sure but the knob and screw may be the same as the one used on quite a few mitchell reels . If it's different then your probably going to have to look for a beat up 304 with a knob and screw and purchase it for parts. When I get time I'll check and see if it's interchangeable with another model. We do have a mate that is very knowledgeable on the round body's , but he has gone on hiatus from the forum awhile ago. I'm sure he could answer your question. If I find anything out I'll let you know. Regards John in Pa. :sCh_fisherman:

John you gave me an idea. After I work the broken screw out,I will take a screw out of one of my 300's and try that. If it works it is easier to come up with one from a 300. Maybe the schematics library will tell me something. Thanks, your help is appreciated

Hi hrgriz, If you try other screws from a 300 or any of the egg shaped reels and they don't fit , just remember if you go to buy something to replace it all the screws on Mitchell reels are metric. Hope I helped, John in Pa. :sCh_fisherman:

A 300 screws works fine ,but the threaded portion extends too far out the back of the handle. Nothing a dremel cutting disc won't fix.
