Schrack,
From what I know, Wallace has handled hundreds of Mitchells, and he has stated on the Museum's dating information that 624001 was the lowest serial number 5th version that he had ever found. If any of the mates have a lower number it would nice if it was posted.

Regards,
Ted Lanham

I have that information, my question the 300 was put on the case around what number on the 55 production?
I have three with higher ser. #'s plus they have the sticker on the left side.
These Reels are some of the best made.
55 is my choice.

More info. First three of Reels with 300 on case 736xxx 887xxx both are 55's
Have 10 others without 300 and all have low ser. Numbers lowest around 657xxx they are hard to read. You can make out a few numbers but they have 6 numbers.
One day am going to use a big glass get an exact number.
Most the first couple of numbers are readable.
Several have the yellow sticker in place on top left side above Mitchell.

Have you tried the talcum powder trick?
Get a fine brush and dab some talcum powder on the bristles and then dust the inside of the reel foot or other areas you believe there is a serial number that you cannot see. The talcum powder should make the numbers visible when you gently wipe off the excess. Good Luck
Kind Regards, Scott

For what it's worth, I have a reel with serial # 556423. No "300". I had posted that information on the old forum. I acquired it about 3 yrs. ago and use it regularly. It has most of it's paint, but the bail has lost some of it's finish. The fish don't seem to mind though. :D
