Hello all you may remember the 906 Pum disscusion that was had a while back , with fond memories and photos . Well that reel is for sale the one of 10 special orders not a Mitchell Factory order but a order from small tackle shop . Some believe some dont but I bought this reel without thought of it being anything else than being one of the 10 from a very well regarded collector. If you are interested send me a PM maybe a new owner can get to the bottom of this reels history . NIB . Regards Tracey.

Hey Tracey, Most are skeptical just because any 906 can easily be converted to a PUM. I know, I did it myself. Cheers mate, Wallace

Hello OK you made one yourself thats fine but I am talking about the ones that were supposidly done by that little tackle shop that Dries kindly supplied a photo of way back when , NOT by Mitchell but that Tackle shop .

Hello All. Wallace I would like take this discussion further and clear up one more Grey spot in the Mitchell Reel History if I may . Now everyone one talks about getting their facts correct without dought well heres the perfect opportunity lets clear this one up for once and forever. My Info is 10, 906 PUM were made from the Mitchell Factory yes factory made . They were special production order for HENGELSPORHIUS SIJM in ALKMAAR HOLLAND all of have the same serial # , Now without any negative input is it possible to verify this and put this one to rest surely it cant be hard given it is a newer model and given your contacts it would seem to me not to be such a difficult task If and I say If everyone with any relevant information works together . Cheers Tracey.

You spent 100,s If not 1000.s of hours researching your book but for some reason 10 bloody reels cant be sorted . Got Me Stuffed Whats the Go with this TOPIC !

You have to understand that Wallace concentrated on the 300 series up to about the time your 906 MPU's were made. He mainly sought knowledge for the older 300 reel. Your reel has the skirted spool was wasn't what he was studying. Since there were only 10 reels made as you stated they could easily be lost to another competitor that ordered 3000 reels. Bottom line was the dollars made from the sale for Mitchell. I'm not saying your 906 is irrelevant but they could very well be lost in the books. Have you tried the company that you mentioned that ordered them??? How credible is the source of the 10 reels made??? I have a 1964 copy of Fisherman's Digest that has the Gold Mitchell Reel with the Gold accented Conolon Rod. Since no-one has any info on it and have never seen it does it mean it was never made??? Yet it comes from a very reliable source that it was made. More-than-likely to a higher up in the Mitchell or Conolon distributorship. I feel your frustration upon collecting Mitchell reels. One thing I have learned is that nothing is absolute certain collecting these reels. Only pieces of orders here and there and talking to the then higher ups in the companies. Welcome to the Mitchell Collecting World. It would be easier collecting Beanie Babies than Mitchells but not as fulfilling. The search continues.................

Hello All and Hello Kim. Yes I do understand what Wallace did and has done I have a signed hard copy of his book plus a soft cover for reference .What I am on about is this forum was set up to, I believe make sure all the Mitchell Reel information whatever era they were from is as factual as possible. OK fine That is what I am trying to do with these 10 parts of the puzzle. Now my information which I believe and is from the most Credible Source who I know follows discussion on this forum may at some time get involved in this discussion. Now as far as My reel goes I will put in on Flea Bay and let some else wonder about what they just bought, No not me I want answers surely I am not the only one with one of these reels and as far as Wallace saying that He has no more to say or contribute well does,nt that statement fly in the Face of what this Forum is all about ,If you dont know for sure one way or the other why not pool the available information and share what we know , Not that difficult of a concept
.Maybe Mr Ben Wright or Mr Dennis Roberts could shed some light on this subject , I know Mr Roberts has made reference to these 10 in the past. Cheers Tracey.

Hi Tracey,
I checked my books by Dennis Roberts. He states that 10 of your reels were special ordered by Mitchell in 1979. Apparently as Dennis states Mitchell did have other reels specially made for whatever the vender wanted toward the end of 1979. That is all the info I have. If in doubt you could check his books. Good Luck.............

Hello All.

Maybe a bit late to join in but here some history; This tackle shop in Alkmaar was a true mitchell and Abu paradise for many years and had customers from all over Holland and Germany .It was so packed with reels and rods you could hardly move around.I went shopping there many times and I well remember the Mitchell and Abu reels from the late seventies and eighties and in huge numbers.
The former owner ,Mrs Sijm was very much aware of what she had in stock and if she said that 10 pieces 906 PUM were made I have no doubts.
The shop has closed now forever, another great tackleshop gone....

regards, Dries

Hi Tracey,

My apologies for upsetting you with my short response, I just have way too much on my plate 8o

May I ask who it was who convinced you that yours is one of the original 10 made and, if it's the lady from the tackle shop Dries mentioned, I highly recommend getting a letter from her if at all possible confirming yours is authentic.

As far as studies, the only one I've ever seen was the one I made a long time ago when people started asking me about this reel. I could not come up with anything (provenance) on this reel. Let us know if you're able to.

My "source" was Jan Haanstra who had one. I remember when he gave us the serial number, Christian announced that he had a full bail with the exact same serial number. That's all I know mate, wish I could help more...

Best Regards, Wallace

GDay Dries never to late , Its got me ,old mate Wallace had no further comment on this one until you responded . I believe that someone in Europe especially with such a close accusation with that tackle shop maybe could find out more for sure , Its a big ask from the other side of the world but If you could that would be uber cool . . And as far as the convinced reference goes Wallace I am not convinced of anything at the moment Thanks . Cheers.

If my memory is still good, I think it's the 906 with # H129105.
If this is it, this is a reel I bought 25 October 2003 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, 10 years ago !, the day I had the pleasure of speaking Mitchell with Luc de Medts.
Just to clarify as to the provenance of my 906 "complete" with the serial number as the PUM.
Best regards,
