Found this reel in a relative's garage. The serial No. is 530597, it is in a blue box with Mitchell in upper left corner and "original Mitchell guaranteed Product of France" in lower right. Bottom of box is stamped "FAIR TRADED". I can't find a Model name or number anywhere in the booklet or on the reel. Would love to know how old it is and what model it is. Can anyone help?

Hi there Al,

Welcome! Very nice reel you have there, along with the packaging. I am not familiar with the "FAIR TRADED" markings, but based on the serial # and the "Michell" script, it appears what you have there is a classic Model 300 from 1954. A great reel, the 300 is one of my favorites.

Best,
TomD

HappyAl,
I am another lover of the old 300s. I acquired a reel that could be the twin of the outfit you have from a seller that lived in upper NW part of the US. I believe that that my reel originally came from Canada with a serial number 419294 and a box bottom marked "Fair Traded" and a sticker pricing it at $10.50.

Regards,
Ted Lanham

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was a 300 or not since it wasn't marked anywhere. I really like the "Precisioned as a rifle, thoroughbred as a trout" statement on the schematic book. Not sure it makes sense but certainly interesting!
